Rules and Regulations
1 - The District is not liable for damage, theft, vandalism or deterioration of decorations, markers or benches.2 - Absolutely no alcoholic beverages.

3 -
All children must be under the control of an adult.

4 -
All pets must be on a leash.

5 -
No planting of any kind will be allowed around the maker foundation or on the grave.

6 -
Markers and decorations cannot encroach on to graves belonging to others.


7 - The Flower Policy of the Elk Grove – Cosumnes Cemetery District is as follows:  Dead or unsightly flowers will be removed by District personnel on a regular basis.


8 - No person shall place or pour sand, gravel, rocks, cement or any metal of any kind in vases, around markers or on the grave.


9 - Glass and breakable items will be removed by the Cemetery personnel because of the hazards to the public, employees and/or equipment.


10 - No person may burn any material on cemetery grounds.

Headstone Rules and Regulations   
All markers and headstones must be placed by a licensed business with a $1,000,000. liabilityinsurance policy on file with Elk Grove - Cosumnes Cemetery District.  

    For standard plots, themarker including the concrete border cannot be wider than  36 inches and not more than 30 inchesfrom top to bottom.  This is to be installed flush with the surface of the ground. 
    For upright plots,the marker including the concrete border cannot be wider than 36 inches and not more than 30inches from top to bottom.  This marker can be up to 36 inches tall. 
    Any request to deviate from these dimensions must be made at the office of Elk Grove –Cosumnes Cemetery District.

Burial Rules and Regulations


1 - Burial rights (plots) in any of the six cemeteries in the Elk Grove-Cosumnes Cemetery District may be purchased from an authorized representative of the Elk Grove-Cosumnes Cemetery District at the business office located at 8540 Elk Grove Boulevard, Elk Grove, CA.  The terms of the sale are cash.  Upon payment in full, a Certificate of Ownership of Burial Rights, executed by an authorized representative of the District, shall be issued to the purchaser.

2 - No interment may be made, or other services rendered, until all charges for plots and services have been paid in full.

3  - An approved vault shall be used for every interment.  Approved vaults furnished by the family or mortuary shall be delivered to the cemetery 24 hours prior to burial and will be placed by cemetery personnel.

4 - The remains or cremains of the deceased shall be brought to the cemetery in a closed casket or urn..A Burial Permit must accompany the
remains
.  Burial Permits are issued by the County of Sacramento and kept by the District in its permanent records.

5  - No more than one body may be interred in any plot.  The exception to this regulation is double depth plots.  However, cremains may be interred on any plot.  Only three headstones per plot are permitted.

6 - Interrment services shall not  begin before 9am and must conclude by 3pm  on weekdaysSaturday interment services may be made by special arrangement only; there is an additional charge for Saturday services.  According  to District policy, Sunday and holiday interments are not performed.

7 - The Elk Grove-Cosumnes Cemetery district must be given two working days notice before interrment.

8 - Burial plots which have been selected for purchase, but which have not been paid for, will be reserved for a period of no more than 90 days.  The District Secretary may remind the potential purchaser of the 90 day limit as time draws near, but is not required to do so.  However, should the time elapse, and the purchase has not been made, the District will consider the parcel available to any potential purchaser. 

9 - The Elk Grove-Cosumnes District may choose to buy back Burial Rights from the legal owner of a plot, to be determined on a case by case basis by the Board of Trustees.

10 - No marker, border, mow strip, solid placement of cement, plant, tree, or other ornamental or device shall be  permitted on cemetery plots.  The exceptions to this regulation are an approved headstone placed flush with the surface of the ground and an approved flower container placed flush with the surface of the ground. 
Areas of Exception Where Upright Gravestones May Be Placed:
The old section within (Rows 1A–7A; Rows 1-10; Rows A-N; Rows P-W) are areas where upright gravestones may be placed.  A section on the south side of the Plesant Grove Cemetery is designated as an area where upright gravestones may be placed.  A section within the Franklin Cemetery is designated as an area where upright gravestones may be placed. A section within the Hilltop Cemetery is designated as an area where gravestones may be placed.  

11 - The burial of animal remains is prohibited within the Elk Grove-Cosumnes Cemetery District.

12 - The Flower Policy of the Elk Grove-Cosumnes Cemetery District is as follows:  Dead or unsightly flowers will be removed by District personnel on a regular basis. 

13 - No person shall place or pour sand, gravel, rocks, cement or any metal of any kind in vases, around markers or on the grave.  Markers and decorations cannot encroach on graves belonging to others. 

14 - No glass or breakable items of any kind may be used because of the hazards to the public, employees and/or equipment.

15 - No person may burn any material on cemetery grounds. 

16 - Any item that could be a hazard or is unsightly will be removed by the Cemetery personnel.
